Emergency services were called to the scene at the Lydiard Street intersection just before 2.30pm.
No one was seriously injured or conveyed to hospital as a result of the crash.
While police were directing traffic, The Courier witnessed drivers ignore signals and speed through the intersection, causing alarm from officers in the middle of the road.
When passing a crash scene, drivers must slow to 40km/h when emergency services have their lights activated.
The intersection has now reopened to traffic.
