The massive bridge was swung in to place in freezing conditions to allow pedestrian access to the second platform that is under construction.
The upgrade project will also see an extra track installed from Gillies Street to the west of the station to allow trains to pass each other, fixing the current situation where delayed services terminate at Ballarat forcing passengers on to replacement buses.

It will also include new lighting, CCTV coverage, landscaping and seating while the mural at the station entrance painted by Ratartat and students from Yuille Park Community College will also be retained.
"I'm pleased to see such great progress on the Wendouree Station upgrade, which help address the reliability issues for passengers in this growing community," said Wendouree MP Juliana Addison who visited the station on Wednesday.
"This upgrade means Wendouree passengers will soon have access to a station that's safer, more comfortable and more accessible."
Work is continuing on construction including installing stairs, ramps and lifts for the fully accessible overpass to like the existing platform with the new platform.
