The Ballarat Magistrates Court was told on Thursday Brendan Clark, 32, was allegedly captured on CCTV breaking into the Bakery Hill IGA liquor store twice on June 16.

Police informant Senior Constable Paul Fiddaman said the accused used a screwdriver to open a door at 3.30am and 5.40am and stole a large amount of alcohol.

He said on August 21, police arrested Clark near the liquor store after investigators confirmed his identity on the CCTV footage.

Senior Constable Fiddaman said Clark was released on bail with the condition he not be within 200 metres of the IGA liquor store.

But he said within one hour and 10 minutes, Clark re-attended the store at 5.30pm and told an employee his boss was a "dog for dobbing me in".

The court was told Clark allegedly failed to appear in court while he was on bail.

Police opposed Clark's application for bail because of a risk of re-offending.

"Police oppose bail because he attended the store on the same day he was bailed. The owner is reluctant having him back to the store and having him on bail," Senior Constable Fiddaman said.

Senior Constable Fiddaman said the accused, who was not brought into court until the afternoon when he was sober, had alcohol and drug issues.

Clark, who represented himself, told the court he had stable accommodation, strong family support and was doing well considering his situation.

Magistrate Andrew McKenna said Clark was a serious risk of continued offending and refused his application for bail.

Clark faces numerous charges, including burglary, failing to answer bail and being drunk in a public place. He will return to court on August 28.
