In Ballarat helping with the SEDA schools program, Anstey, who's daughter Isobel just finished her season playing in the NBL1 with Dandenong, says the competition goes a long way for young player's development.

"I think it's a wonderful step in the pathway of any young player," he says.

"The competition provides the requirement for (Isobel) and younger players to increase speed and improve their decision making against high quality seniors."

Anstey pointed out Ballarat's Georgia Amoore as another example of how the league can help develop young talent.

"(Georgia's) opportunity to play against adults for 25-plus minutes a game will really help her evolution and I think it will also help encourage other young local girls... they've seen that Georgia has done it and it's an easy role-model for them."
