YMCA's annual Delacombe Community Market, formerly known as Winterfest, is a major fundraiser for the organisation's Open Doors program.
For Sarah, a mum of two, financial assistance from Open Doors was a chance for her children to have some fun.
"(It) enabled my children to go on the holiday program, so I could attend my medical appointments. I knew the kids would have a good day instead of sitting with me during treatment," Sarah said.
YMCA Open Doors has a long history supporting families to attend programs they might not be able to access otherwise.
Programs in Ballarat and the Grampians can range from kindergarten access, outside school hours care and youth programs.
Open Doors has also helped provide recreational items like bicycles and equipment to help children and young people with disabilities to participate in programs.
The indoor community market will feature more than 35 stalls including crafts, home items, food, entertainment and children's activities. Entry is free and the first 30 families to attend after 4pm will receive a succulent for the garden.
Succulents help build on YMCA's gardening club in Delacombe, which boasts edible and colourful patches at the community hub. The garden, and its food, is open to anyone who wants to lend a hand.
YMCA Delacombe Community Market is in Delacombe Stadium, at Doug Dean Reserve, on Friday 3.30-7pm. For more details visit: ballarat.ymca.org.au.
