Anthony Slater pleaded guilty at the Ballarat Magistrates Court this week to aggravated carjacking, recklessly conduct endangering serious injury and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
The ordeal started at 9.10am on April 19 when Slater became increasingly agitated during a taxi trip.
A police summary says Slater pushed the taxi driver with his right hand to the shoulder while holding the syringe in his left hand and told him to get out.
Slater continued to push at the victim and thrusting the syringe toward his throat before he stopped the vehicle and exited.
Slater then got into the driver's seat and drove at fast speeds, tailgated a car and drove on the wrong side of Dana Street.
Police saw Slater doing a burnout while travelling around the roundabout in front of the Ballarat Police Station.
He then tried to park the taxi but when he exited, it rolled forward into a parked car. He was arrested in the police station foyer.
The prosecution withdrew three charges on Thursday before Slater pleaded guilty to the remaining three charges via video link.
A plea hearing has been set in the County Court circuit starting in Ballarat on September 23. Slater did not make an application for bail and was remanded in custody until then.
