State Highway Patrol stopped a speeding driver in Bungaree on Sunday morning as part of Operation Argus.
Police checked the Holden Commodore sedan travelling at 151km/h in a 110km/h section of the Western Freeway about 10.48 today.
The 21-year-old probationary driver from Smythesdale had his car impounded at a cost of $1255.
He will be summoned to a Magistrates' Court at a later date.
The intercept was part of Operation Argus, which focuses on impaired driving, motorcycles, excessive speed, driver distraction and not wearing seatbelts.
This is the second major interception in the region this weekend, after an allegedly drug-affected driver was stopped without a licence in an unregistered car on the freeway near Invermay Park on Saturday.
