The Arts for All section of the Royal South Street Society was set up in 2017, aimed specifically for people living with a disability.
It is taking place this week at the Creswick venue.
Adjudicator Kat Moritz told The Courier that a "wonderful" first day of performances. "[They] were of a really high standard," she said. "I found myself struggling to allocate first, second and third places with a lot of them."
She said there was even one young boy who competed in the instrumental category by submitting a video of his drum solo.
"It was great for everyone to see that we can accommodate everyone, send out the message that it's an inclusive event," she said.
There were around 50 performers on the first day of the competition, taking part in dance, instrumental, speech and drama, as well as vocal categories.
"Everyone seemed to have a really great time," Ms Moritz said. There was great feedback and all the performers were really, really positive about their experience.
The performances also take place on Tuesday (September 10).
