The Falcons were keen to establish a home ground advantage going into the game while Monash were still searching for its first of the season.
Looking to get back into rhythm following its 55-6 loss to Melbourne University last week, Ballarat's offense was able to push the ball down the field while its defense caused major headaches for the Barbarians.
The stellar defensive performance was highlighted by a team captain Eddie Carey, who brought in an interception before taking the ball down-field for a big pick-six touchdown, helping secure the 20-6 victory.
The win lifts the Falcons to eighth on the competition standings heading into its next clash on the road against the Peninsula Sharks.
The Sharks, like Monash are yet to secure a win in 2019 and are coming off a 53-6 drubbing at the hands of Melbourne Uni.
