The new course will feature multiple laps for specific events and will see riders race straight through the Federation Uni campus.
Cycling Australia CEO Steve Drake says the changes will energise the event and improve the viewing experience for spectators.
"Cycling Australia is very excited about the changes to the time trial course for 2020," he said.
"We are continually looking at how we can energise the Championships and create a better event for the athletes and spectators, and we think we've achieved it that with this change."
The course will be mixed with a classic time trial section running down Yankee Flat Road along with technical downhill section running along Fisken Avenue.
The Road Nats have been a huge success in years past, further establishing Ballarat as the road cycling capital of Australia with big names like Dennis Rohan and Richie Porte taking part in the time trail previously.
