It's a strange and dire conundrum that our best and brightest spend their working lives absent from public life only to emerge upon semi-retirement.
Meanwhile our governments at all levels are composed of well-meaning and earnest middle class individuals, who for all their best endeavours to participate in developing a better society may lack the educational advantages of many of these professionals working in our community.
What a world we would live in if just a fraction of our doctors and surgeons, barristers and solicitors, teachers and principals and countless other professionals and business leaders took a turn to participate in public life once in a while.
