The Ballarat Football Netball Club's new custom-built barbecue trailer, with its twin grills, swing-out bench, built-in sinks and cold storage, and solar power battery, is ready to roll, and club president Karl Drever couldn't be happier.
"We're going to be one of the biggest regional clubs in Victoria with the amount of kids we've got playing - next year we'll probably have about 800 kids that we'll be putting on the field and the courts every week, it's phenomenal," he said.
"(This barbecue trailer) means a lot in regard to sustainability long-term - on a general home game, we might raise $1000 out of this just by opening up and cooking egg and bacon rolls, that's money we can put back into our junior programs to make sure kids are getting on the field and on the court each week with good equipment, and good coaches."
The trailer, much to Mr Drever's surprise, was designed, built, and donated by Andrew Holloway and his team from Australian Grain Systems in Mitchell Park.
His two children have been playing with the Swans for a few years, and he said he wanted to give back to the club.
"We just got our heads together and figured out the best way to do it and what's going to work the best for the club," he said.
"This, to us, is an easy thing to build compared to what we do normally.
"My boys both play for the club and when they started talking about needing a trailer, talking about pricing and quotes - I just said I'll make it easier for you, I'll just build it and donate it."
The project took just four weeks to complete, he added, including the gas fittings and signwriting.
Mr Drever said the trailer would replace one the club had been loaning for the past few years.
"It does bring a lot of the parents together as well, so it creates that community culture around the club too which we're after," he said.
"We're lucky enough to be ... in one of the biggest growth regions in western Victoria, that's the Alfredton corridor, kids want to come and play at our club which is great.
"It's got everything fandangled on it, it's probably one of the best barbecue trailers going around, if not the best, I reckon."
