The 32-year-old left-hander departed for five on day two of the fifth Test against England when he was adjudged to have feathered a Jofra Archer ball into the gloves of Jonny Bairstow.
Umpire Marais Erasmus gave Warner not out but after Joe Root opted to review the decision, footage showed he got the faintest of touches to a wide delivery that he couldn't resist playing at in the third over of the innings.
Replays suggested Warner had missed the ball but Ultra Edge technology showed there was a small spike off the toe of the bat.
It continues a horror run for Warner whose only innings of substance was a gritty 61 in the third Test at Headingley and has been dismissed six times by Stuart Broad and on three occasions to Archer.
The Sydneysider, who has scored over 6400 Test runs in a 79-match career, has never scored a century in three overseas Ashes series, but is experiencing his leanest run in at the crease since making his debut against New Zealand in 2011.
His current return of 84 with the bat usurps the previous worst series by an Australian top-six player since Peter Toohey in the 1978-79 Ashes.
Toohey was dismissed for less than 10 seven times but did manage to score an unbeaten 81 in addition to a 32 and 20 to inflate his average to 16.5 in five-Test series.
The most recent case of a similarly torrid run was Kim Hughes in 1984 when he had six single-figure scores against the West Indies which ended in a tearful captaincy resignation at the Gabba.
Warner averages 9.3 despite Australia leading the series 2-1 and retaining the Ashes away from home for the first time since 2001.
