The Reds played with the same dominance that yielded them the league title this year by beating Ballarat North United 2-1 at Morshead Oval on Saturday.

Ballarat head coach Leroy Hand said it was very exciting to be back-to-back league champions.

"Very exciting times," he said.

"We closed them down so quickly today, we moved the ball just as we asked them to into wide areas and that's what they did. We opened the game up early and the results paid off."

The Reds had a fight on their hands against a feisty United outfit intent on an upset. Ballarat's Lucy Fraser scored the first goal for the Reds, only for United to immediately reply at the other end off the boot of Eva Costa.

Hand said it was nerve-wracking to watch.

"They (Ballarat North United) played one of the best games I've seen them play this year and deserved a close game. It was good to see," he said.

A goal from Red's captain Lucy Brennan steadied the nerves of her team on the stroke of half-time. The strike proved the winner in the end with both teams going scoreless in the second-half.

Brennan's poise and leadership under pressure earned her best-on-ground honours.

"It feels amazing, I honestly cant thank the girls enough, it's not about being the best player, it's about being part if a team and we were the best team tonight," she said.
