LET'S be honest, programming a major outdoor festival in Ballarat in September at night was always going to be fraught with some risk, but early forecasts suggest that trepidation might be well-founded.

If you're planning to head to White Night on Saturday, rug up and take an umbrella or a poncho, because it's going to be cold and probably wet.

After what looms as a mostly sunny week, showers are expected to develop late on Friday as a major spring cold front strikes Victoria.
By Saturday, Ballarat can expect a top of just 11 degrees with easing showers, but it's the evening where the cold front is likely to be felt with the temperature dropping to as low as 1 degree early on Sunday morning.
Then throw in a wind chill factor with westerly winds up to 24km/h and you know it's going to be a white night for more reason than one.
Fingers crossed for both the White Night and the Ballarat Football Netball League grand final day that most of the rain forecast for Friday is gone by Saturday afternoon.
