Now East Point veterans Emma Farrell and Marcelle Geljon are set to end their careers together.
The 41-year-old women will play their final game in Saturday's Ballarat Football Netball League grand final against North Ballarat City.
"I've tried not to think about it, but there is a bit of hype around town on the TV and radio," said Geljon.
"It's quite exciting to think we could go out on a win to end our careers at the club."
Saturday will mark the third grand final appearance for Geljon who has spent the last 13 years at the club. It will be the sixth for Farrell who cant wait to take the court alongside her former rival.
"We used to play on one another," said Farrell.
"We had a mutual respect, we are both pretty dogged in our attack, and we are both competitive once we're out on that white line.
The pair have shared many memories since joining forces, one of the favorites being the 2016 grand final victory in triple overtime. But it wasn't just the highs of winning that made the aches and pains worth playing on for.
"It's for the friendships, that's why you play," said Geljon.
"We wouldn't have forged that friendship if we hadn't played at East Point together. This is what the club brings out and it will last a lifetime."
Retirement was a long time coming for Geljon who had been joking about it for the last four years. The decision was slightly easier for Farrell who could no longer ignore the advice of her physio.
But the call of more family time became too hard to resist for the teammates, both of whom have children playing sport of their own.
But its not over yet. And while neither are getting ahead of themselves, the thought of going out on top is something both women have thought about.
"We're trying not to think about it, and we've talked about it as a team," said Farrell.
"It's more about the process and the outcome will take care of itself. The group has been together a long time and just playing another grand final is special."
