I have been dancing from age six.
I do contemporary and hip hop, and last year I did jazz. I like to try other styles.
Dancing defines who I am, I do not know who I'd be or what I'd do if I did not have dance as part of my life. Just being able to release all of your emotions- like anger and sadness, or expressing yourself and telling a story- is just a magical feeling.
It does not take much to appreciate the small things in life, and dancing is one of those things that will keep growing bigger until you can be the best person or the best dancer you can be.
I have been dancing for almost eight years and I still have a lot to work on, a lot to improve on, and a lot to prove myself.
You face many challenges in dance, like pushing yourself to get this combination, move or dance right, or wanting to prove yourself and show people what you can really do, but you don't think you can. But it is important to take them on, and dancing can help you overcome any challenge.
When I jump into the air, it feels like I'm flying, and in that moment, I feel like anything is possible and that I could take on anything.
- Emmerson McHenry
When I jump into the air, it feels like I'm flying, and in that moment, I feel like anything is possible and that I could take on anything.
Dancing is not just a sport, it is moving moments, and an amazing way to express yourself and all your feelings and emotions. Some styles are ones where you can be relaxed and you can dance your feelings away. Contemporary, lyrical, slow acrobatics and ballet are the best styles to do this. When slow songs accompany this style of dance, songs that have a meaning behind them, it is almost like you are dancing the words to life.
Dancing is a great way to deal with loss, anxiety, stress, sadness and many other things. Whether people are watching you or not, tell a story through your dance and make every move count, dance like there is no tomorrow and dance like you mean it.
Dancing is a form of happiness. Most people do it because they love to do it, like me, I dance to let things out all the time. But while I'm doing that, I do it because I love it and it's what I want to do all the time.
Instead of walking normally to the kitchen, I jete there, or I pirouette or chasse there. While I'm looking in the fridge, I'm standing on tip toes and doing toe stretches. I dance in the lounge room and feel so happy.
I am so grateful that I am able to have something like dancing in my life and no matter where I am, I'm always welcome to do it.
Whether you are a dancer or not, whether you know how to dance or not, no matter what style you can or can't do; whenever you feel like you need to express how you are feeling, just dance.
Dance your heart out, dance with everything you have, dance like no one is watching even if there is. An audience is always better to have, if you feel like you can't tell them straight up, to their face or at all, dance it out for them. They might not understand everything you're dancing, but at least they can see how you're feeling. They might not even understand what you're going through, but dancing is always just the best way to let something out.
