PETER Baguley was the first in the door to volunteer for next month's Run For A Cause. He has his ideal sport already picked out, about two-kilometres in on a bend in Victoria Park, where plenty of interesting people tend to stop for a chat and check out what is going on.

Meeting people from all walks of life is a great side-effect for Mr Baguley in volunteering, which he considers doing his bit to help make Ballarat a great place to be.
A long-time volunteer with a decade's experience, including Carnivale in Rio, Mr Baguley said you just had to have the right attitude.
"You can be a resident here and have a house, have an address, but I don't think you're part of the community until you put in," Mr Baguley said. Busy lives were no excuse, he said, because it was about being organised and doing what you could.

- Peter Baguley
Mr Baguley juggles about 17 volunteer ventures now, including Cycling Australia Road National Championships in Buninyong and Ballarat Cycle Classic for Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.
Run For A Cause launched last year in the wake of CottonOn's popular Run Ballarat reaching its finish line.
The Ballarat Foundation stepped up to host a major fun run for the city and Mr Baguley was impressed with how smooth it ran. The Foundation needs about 200 volunteers to make the event happen on and off course.
