The week long LGBTIQA Festival, which will this year run from November 7-13, has been boosted by a $10,000 grant from the Pride Events and Festivals Fun and a further $9200 from a community grants fund which will help organisers run the event.
In its third year, the entirely volunteer-run event will feature a host of highlights including an art show, The Wandering Circus, Frolic Carnival Day in Camp Street on the Saturday, history tours, a quiz night and even the legendary and multi-award winning Granny Bingo featuring Edith Vale and Maureen McGillycuddy.
Festival spokesman Jay Morrison said the Frolic Festival was a growing and important event for the whole Ballarat community.
"It celebrates the art and culture from within our local community and brings interesting talent to the region for everyone to enjoy," Mr Morrison said.
"Frolic Festival creates safe spaces for our community and helps bring acceptance in the wider public. We're so fortunate and grateful that we've secured the government funding - it means we'll be able to put on 21 events this year.
"We'll have something for everyone, from children right through to elderly members of the community. We put it on in November so it doesn't clash with other festivals around, the weather should be great, so hopefully everyone comes out and has a great time."
Buninyong MP Michaela Settle said this year's festival had something for everyone.
"There are a number of family friendly and children's events including rainbow story time at the library, Frolic community day and an event at the Brown Hill Community Garden," she said.
"I would encourage everyone to check out the program, book your tickets and come down and experience some fantastic events."
