Just days after Moonlight Maid delivered Freedman victory in the group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington, stablemate Southern Moon strolled in at Donald to continue his path to the Victoria Derby.
Both horses are by Puissance de Lune, which Freedman used to handle as foreman for Darren Weir's Warrnambool base.
Southern Moon was sent out a short-priced favourite in a 2000m maiden at Donald on Monday and won with ease.
Freedman said he felt Southern Moon, a big grey horse out of South Street, would get the 2500m trip of the time honoured Derby.
"He just switches off and conserves energy so well throughout and has got a good turn of foot at the end of it so I think he has got all the right attributes to get 2500m at this point in time," Freedman told racing.com.
"I think you'll see him be sharp enough over a mile, even in the autumn anyway."
Freedman said Southern Moon was "right on track" for the Derby.
"He has conditioned up really nicely and we are looking forward to trying to get him to the Derby over the next little bit," he said.
With the TAB, Southern Moon is now a $9 equal second favourite for the group 1 Victoria Derby. Moonlight Maid is third favourite for the group 1 Kennedy Oaks at the same price.
The Derby is on November 2 at Flemington, with the Oaks on November 7.
