The Rachel Griffiths flick, which centres on Ballarat-born Payne's journey in becoming the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup, has raked in $5.67 million since its official opening two weeks ago, according to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia.
Starring Teresa Palmer, Sam Neill, Sullivan Stapleton and Payne's brother Stevie, the film has raced to the top after passing Top End Wedding ($5.2 million) and Storm Boy ($5 million).
After making another $1.6 million at the weekend, thanks to school holidays and word-of-mouth, it is now eyeing off more than $10 million at the box office.
