Bryce Carroll joins former Bombers teammate Tom German, who is the Cobras' new coach.
Carroll and German were each picked up by Essendon in the AFL rookie draft at the end of 2008, with Carroll going at pick five.
The 29-year-old is much travelled as a footballer.
He was drafted via the Western Jets in the TAC Cup and as well as Essendon has VFL experience with Northern Bullants.
Carroll has also played with Aspley in Queensland, Albury in the Ovens and Murray league, and Strathfieldsaye in the Bendigo league.
He was part of Albury's back-to-back premierships in 2014 and 2015.
Bacchus Marsh general manager Adam Sutherland said Carroll was coming off what had basically been a season off.
He said Carroll had decided not to play this year after an ankle reconstruction at the end of 2018, but had been persuaded to pull on the boots for East Keilor in the Essendon District league.
He managed just three games mid-season.
Sutherland describes Carroll as an old-fashion utlility.
He said Carroll would have the ability to fill a variety of roles, including key positions.
"He'll be a great asset with our younger and developing players."
Sutherland said the Cobras were pleased with the way recruiting was progressing.
"We have a few prospects we're talking to and are also looking to get back some 'one-pointers'," he said.
Bacchus Marsh is working to build its list after missing finals this year under non-playing coach Peter Davey, who was at the club just one year.
The 2016 premier finished eighth with six wins after three seasons of playing finals.
Liam Mullen is their only confirmed departure.
