Acting Inspector Ben Young said an older model, small red sedan was detected driving along Remembrance Drive at 100km/h in a 60km/h zone about noon.
When police attempted to intercept it, the car has sped off, reaching speeds of up to 160km/h.
Police were unable to catch up with the driver who was last reported to have been seen in the Weatherboard area near Learmonth.
"Literally days after we saw a serious accident where a driver hit a tree on Remembrance Drive, we see an incident like this - it beggars belief that a driver would behave in this manner," Inspector Young said.
Anyone with information or who may have seen the car is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
