Left in limbo following Basketball Australia's decision to disband the South East Australian Basketball League, the Pioneers spent 2019 playing in the South Australia Premier League competition.
The Pioneers have been given a one-year licence for the upcoming season, with president Tom Kosch saying the club "couldn't be happier about entering NBL1 in 2020."
"The team at the Pioneers has worked incredibly hard to get to this point, and we look forward to fielding a competitive men's and women's squad next season," he said.
The Pioneers will enter both a men's a women's team for the competition. Mount Gambier last won a SEABL premiership in 2017.
