Mayank Sharma was a hero with the bat for his side in its battle against Ballarat-Redan at Alfredton Oval on Saturday, with his score of 51 helping the Bunnies to an important first innings success.
But the Indian national is understood to have become involved in an exchange of words with a Two Swords player, which is alleged to have turned racial.
It's also believed that the two players had a physical altercation on the field.
Buninyong captain-coach Liam Brady said Sharma was visibly upset about what had taken place after he was dismissed and had returned to the sidelines.
Brady said the club would be following up with a written report to the BCA.
"Hopefully this is education moving forward in that people understand that such comments can have an affect on someone's feelings and general well being and shouldn't be tolerated anywhere," Brady said.
Ballarat-Redan president Paul Aikman said his club was aware of an altercation between the two players, but had not received any official reports from the umpires or association.
"I'd be very surprised and even disappointed if there was any deliberate acts of a racial nature made because we have worked hard to instil strong values in our players over the last two seasons," Aikman said.
Sharma was recruited to Buninyong this season from Purnim.
