The 64-year-old motorcyclist who died at Marong, near Bendigo today was from Kingston, north of Creswick, police say.
The man was travelling south along the Calder Alternate Highway when two trucks made a right hand turn into Bullock Road, Detective Sergeant Jarrod Dwyer of the Motor Collision Investigation Unit said.
The second truck and the motorcycle collided, he said.
"We have a 29-year-old male from New South Wales who is the driver of the truck, assisting us with our enquiries at Bendigo (police station)," DS Dwyer said.
Investigators are trying to establish whether speed was a factor in the collision, he said.
"Our focus is to establish a cause," DS Dwyer said.
The trucks were carrying beehives containing honey.
"There's a bee farm close by, and the bees came for the honey because it was sitting in the heat. So the bees weren't actually being transported," DS Dwyer said.
"I've been informed that bees get transported at night."

The Major Collision Investigation Unit has arrived at the site of the fatal crash.
