Buninyong can compensate for a slow start to the season by landing all 10 points in the battle with Ballarat-Redan.
The Bunnies will kick off day two of the clash at Alfredton with first innings points in the pocket and with one eye towards securing an outright victory.
Buninyong skittled the Two Swords for 49 and then went on to make 120 before the end of play on day one.
The Bunnies will take the new ball for the start of the second innings on Saturday with a 71-run lead.
Captain-coach Liam Brady knows how valuable a 10-point win would be for his side, which currently sits second last on the Ballarat Cricket Association first grade table.
"Take early wickets and the rest of the day will look after itself," he said on Thursday.
Day one of the clash was marred by an incident involving Buninyong's Mayank Sharma and a Ballarat-Redan rival.
Sharma, who made a quick-fire 51 to help his team to first innings points, claims he was racially vilified during his knock.
Past EJ Cleary Medal winner Liam Rigby was the other hero for the Bunnies on Saturday, with his figures of 7-16 tearing apart the home side.
Elsewhere this Saturday, Mt Clear will get another 10 overs to bat in the clash with Wendouree at CE Brown Reserve.
With rain hampering day one, the Mounties resume on 4-193 with Nathan Yates (102 not out) and Brandon Walsh (eight not out) at the crease.
After that, the Red Caps will get 70 overs to chase down the Mt Clear total.
Over at the Eastern Oval, Golden Point will continue its first innings at 4-119 with Manjula De Zoysa (15 not out) and Daniel White (10 not out) in the middle.
Given the week one rain delays, the Pointies will receive another 16 overs before Brown Hill gets its chance to bat.
The other two first grade games never got underway last Saturday.
Napoleons-Sebastopol will host Darley in a revised one-day match, while the grand final rematch between North Ballarat and East Ballarat at the Northern Oval will also be played as a 50-overs-per-side contest.
More wet weather is forecast in Ballarat across this weekend.
