The state of housing in Ballarat has hit an all time low.
My aunt has returned to Ballarat to support and find housing for herself, her son and grandson.
Since August, they have applied for more than 40 homes through all real estate agents in Balllarat and has been overwhelmed by the quantity of people attending inspections.
Her budget is up to $300 per week and she has a perfect rental history.
They are now homeless and "couch surfing" and using services such as the Salvos, Centrecare and Vinnies to help with searching for accommodation and finances.
After receiving two weeks emergency housing, they were offered a cabin at a local caravan park for $500 per week and with only a disability and single parent pension, this is an expense that they cannot afford.
Is this the best our services can provide a homeless family?
Who can we turn to in times of crises in Ballarat?
