Irish horse Downdraft will represent the region in the 'Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour National Sweep', which will see one regional town come away with $50,000 to put towards a charity of its choice.

Downdraft, which was tied to Ballarat after drawing the 15^th barrier in the race, is currently tipped among the top half of horses heading into the race that stops the nation.

Ballarat received the 15^th barrier at random earlier this year.
