The tour will focus on the principles of design, garden styles and guidance on plant choice to make the most of your very own path of dirt, it will also include steps on achieving the best success you can in developing your home garden.

Guides Convenor for Friends of the Ballarat Botanic Gardens Terry O'Brien said the tour will include stops throughout the gardens, pointing to some of the more unusual and well-crafted areas in the Ballarat showpiece.

"Part of the activity will be selected stops along the very long western bed that stretches the length of Gillies Street," Mr O'Brien said.

"It is now made up of different bays that have different planting styles and the tour will tap into these different garden styles to identify their structural components and examine how form, shape, colour, leaves, blossom and texture have worked.

"One of the bays examined will be the newly developed local native garden bed where some plant choices will be identified to suit our changing below average rainfall."

Mr O'Brien said the tour would offer lots of advice, tips, information and help you to be motivated to enjoy your garden at the prettiest time of year.

"There will be time for discussion over wine and nibbles with other like-minded people and garden notes to take home will also be provided," he said.
