The off-shore Centenary Fountain, which burst back to life in September, is set to have Christmas-themed lighting for the holiday period.
City of Ballarat has confirmed the Lake Wendouree fountain can be colour-themed to suit special events and the City hoped to add more lights in the precinct for the holidays.
This comes as The Courier's readership has queried why the fountain was not bathed in coloured light every night, like it was when first turned back on.
A City spokesperson said the lighting was not used everyday to avoid limiting the feature's effectiveness in the future - ensuring each time it lit up was special.
The $67,000 fountain restoration was constructed as close as possible to the original design, which had lay dormant for 37 years. LED lighting was fitted to the fountain's base.
The original fountain, was installed by Ballarat Water Commissioners, now known as Central Highlands Water, to mark the centenary and site on which the first piped water supply to Ballarat was taken in 1858.
A fountain show spectacular with music and synchronised lights was put forward as a potential addition to City of Ballarat's Lake Wendouree master plan in its draft stages two years ago.
