For several years the Ballarat Cemetery and Ballarat Specialist School have had a partnership to help brighten the grounds ahead of the festive season.
"We buy the seeds and seedlings and given them to the Specialist School, where the kids grow and look after them until this time of year then bring them up for us and help plant them," said Ballarat General Cemeteries Trust chief executive Annie de Jong.
"They really care for the annuals ... as part of their horticulture program."
The mass of colour is planted at the cemetery entrances so when the students and other members of the public go past, they can see them growing for the next six months.
"We want to put colour in the cemetery at this time of year when families are missing people being with them," Ms de Jong said.
