With Anzac Day falling on a Saturday and sport not permitted to played before 1pm on the day, all five games will be scheduled as night fixtures.

BFL operations manager Shane Anwyl said the competition was fortunate to have plenty of options for night football.

With the Eastern Oval having had new lights installed since the end of the football season, all six of Ballarat's BFL venues are now suitable for night football.

In the eastern end of the competition, Sunbury has been a long-standing night venue, Bacchus Marsh went on line for night games last season and Darley is in the process of having new lights put up.

Anwyl said Melton was getting new lights as part of the redevelopment of MacPherson Park, but he was unsure when they would be ready for use.

He said netball programming might pose a few challenges with not all courts with lighting suitable for night games.

The BFL is in the process of preparing a draft fixture, which it plans to present to clubs at its annual meeting on Monday, December 9.

Anwyl said round one would be split over two weeks.

The season will begin on Saturday, April 4 - a week before the Easter long weekend.

He said he had received request for matches on Good Friday, April 10.

Clubs not engaged in a Good Friday fixture will play on April 4 and have a break over the Easter long weekend.

Clubs with Good Friday games, will not play on the weekend of April 4-5.

Ballarat played against Redan at Alfredton on Good Friday this year.

THE BFL has confirmed it is in negotiations with the Bendigo league with a view to arranging senior football and netball games for next year.

AFL Victoria is encouraging leagues to arrange standalone representative games to replace the statewide community championships, which is has decided not to continue next year.

Ballarat and Bendigo have a longstanding rivalry.
