He has been delisted to make away for Ballarat-born Xavier Cooks.
Cooks is a son of Miners legend Eric Cooks, who won four most valuable player awards with Ballarat in the mid to late 1980s before embarking on an NBL career with Wollongong Hawks.
Cooks senior has played and coached the Hawks, and remains with the club as an assistant coach.
Kuany was signed by the Kings earlier this year after a stellar debut season with the Miners in NBL1.
Originally from South Sudan, Kuany averaged 17.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists a game.
He had limited opportunities with Sydney, averaging little more than two minutes on court a game.
He had spent the previous two NBL seasons with Cairns Taipans.
The 24-year-old Cooks joins Sydney immediately after being released by French team SG Strasbourg.
Cooks played with German side Oliver Wurzburg last year.
He was selected in the Boomers' squad for this year's World Cup, but had to withdrew owing to a knee injury.
Sydney Kings chief executive officer Chris Pongrass said it was a bitter-sweet situation often confronted with in professional sport.
"We are grateful for the efforts Kuany has contributed toward the great start to this season.
"His contract will be paid in full and we will support him as he prepares for his next opportunity."
