The Magpies selected the South Warrnambool youngster with pick 40 in the second phase of the national draft on Thursday night.
The 18-year-old was the only Rebels player drafted.
Rantall, who was dubbed the "running man" after his two-kilometre time trial at the AFL national combine, was at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne for the draft on Thursday night with his parents Tim and Lia, and younger brother Wil.
His Rebels teammates Toby Mahony (Camperdown), Isaac Wareham (Mortlake) and Mitch Martin (Horsham), and Williamstown VFL-listed Joel Ottavi (East Point/Buninyong), who all attended combines, will be hoping to be recruited into the AFL via Friday's rookie draft.
The Rebels became the ninth NAB League under-18 club to have a player drafted.
Dandenong Stingrays were the most productive in the 21 picks in the first round by providing three draftees.
Bendigo Pioneers, Oakleigh Chargers, Murray Bushrangers, Sandringham Dragons, Gippsland Power. Geelong Falcons and Northern Knights also had players selected on Wednesday night.
An Australian junior basketball representative - he played in the FIBA under-17 World Cup in Argentina and Asian under-16 Championships in China - Rantall won the Rebels' best and fairest this year and was named in the NAB League team of the year.
He also represented Vic Country in the national under-18 championships, playing four games.
In 12 appearances for the Rebels, Rantall averaged 24.9 disposals.
He will join another former Rebel in Flynn Appleby at Collingwood.
Appleby was drafted in 2017, when he was one of two Rebels selected in the national draft along with Lloyd Meek (Fremantle).
This is the second year in a row just one GWV Rebel has been recruited via the national draft.
Thomas Berry went to Brisbane Lions last year, joining his brother Jarrod at the club.
The rookie draft on Friday starts at 10am.
