The 42-year-old finished with figures of 5-23 on the second day of a two-day clash with Brown Hill on Saturday.
He took the final wicket in a nailbiting finish to dismiss Brown Hill one run shy of victory at 10-137.
The performance prevented a loss for his side, which looked imminent after getting bowled out for the same score the week before.
Thomson said it felt great to come through for his club.
"I was a bit pumped, I was thinking we'd lost the game so I asked for another over and it was good to get it," he said.
Brown Hill had its back against the wall early in the day after a slew of early wickets put them at 9-100.
But a steady batting effort from Prabath Priyankara, 28, put the Bulls in prime position to seal the match at 9-137.
It wasn't to be.
Priyankara fell to Thomson on the first ball of the 63rd over.
"It was a standard ball on off-stump," said Thomson.
"It felt good and I knew it was going to hit the area, and I was lucky enough to get a nick."
The paceman finished with six wickets for the innings, one of which came at the end of day one when the Bulls went to the sheds at 2-22.
Brown Hill captain Tom Bourke-Finn said the two early losses proved critical on the second day of action.
"Our openers did a good job last week to survive 20 overs, so to strike late left us a couple short this week," he said.
The draw breaks a three-game losing streak for the Two-Swords.
Meanwhile Golden Point backed up a successful stint with the bat to defeat Napoleon-Sebastopol by 157 runs at Eastern Oval.
Naps-Sebas, 133, was unable to account for Golden Point, 4-290, in the second day of a two day clash on Saturday.
Naps-Sebas opener Nathan Doonan led the run-chase for his club, finishing with 38 off 74 deliveries before falling to Josh White.
Whittaker lets it rip against Wendouree
East Ballarat chased down Wendouree to hand the table-leaders its first loss of the season in the Ballarat Cricket Association on Saturday.
East Ballarat, 5-291, comfortably accounted for the Red Caps, who finished their innings at 6-241 last week.
An century from East Point's Bradley Whittaker laid the platform to victory, with an impressive 107 off 158 deliveries.
He was backed up by Jacob Eyers who made an efficient 72.
Wendouree bowler Anthony Beacham submitted decent bowling figures of 2-44, but it wasn't enough to stop Easts who have won three of its last four matches.
Meanwhile Mt Clear only needed 65 overs to dismiss North Ballarat to win by 113 runs at Mt Clear Turf.
The Roosters, 188, were unable to account for the Mounties, who finished at 8-301 last week.
Mt Clear bowler Ashley George proved too much for the Roosters to handle, finishing with figures of 3-48.
North Ballarat captain Leigh Lorenzen provided the backbone of his team's run chase with a score of 34.
It was the third win of the season for Mt Clear which sits fourth on the competition table.
Elsewhere Darley's enormous first-innings total proved a bridge too far for Buninyong which lost by 231 runs.
The Bunnies, 10-132, fell well short of Darley's 363 at St Patrick's Oval.
Buninyong opener Robert Hind offered the main resistance with a score of 74 off 148 deliveries.
