And it looks as though the Emus are having some luck.
The club, which reached its first ever senior finals series in the Central Highlands Football League this year, has lodged clearances for well-known trio Rhys Monument, Daniel Kilpatrick and Sam Willian.
Monument is looking to transfer from East Point, where he was a member of the club's maiden Ballarat league premiership in 2018.
He started in 12 games during that flag-winning year, but played mostly reserves football in 2019.
Monument proved a solid goal-kicker for the Kangaroos' senior side, booting 15 goals in 2018, 25 in 2017 and 21 in 2016.
Kilpatrick played in North Ballarat City's 2014 Ballarat league grand final triumph and looks set to add major quality to Skipton's midfield options.
Kilpatrick, who has VFL experience, has not played much in recent seasons, managing just a few reserves appearances in the last couple of years.
Willian was part of North Ballarat City's losing 2015 decider, where he played alongside Kilpatrick.
The versatile Willian played 11 senior matches for City throughout 2019.
Also looking to join the Emus is William Petrowski and Jethro Kirby from East Point.
Both have played their most recent football in the reserves competition with the Kangaroos.
This year, coach Greg Middleton took Skipton to its first finals series since joining the CHFL in 2011.
After finishing eighth on the ladder, the side pushed Hepburn in an elimination final but eventually went down to the Burras by 33 points.
Middleton will again lead the Emus and is preparing for his fourth campaign in charge of the club.
Skipton won the last two Lexton Plains Football League premierships in 2009 and 2010.
