THE COMMUNITY SPIRIT shone bright as more than 1000 residents and visitors got in the Christmas spirit in Clunes last Friday evening. The community event saw representatives from a wide array of groups dress up and either walk down the town's main street or ride in floats during the annual Christmas in Clunes Street Parade. It was a celebration of not only the town and the various sectors of the community from businesses, to interest groups and sporting clubs but there was also an emphasis on the town's youth, with the majority of entertainment conducted by the youth participating in the Art Attack program. Entertainment was in the form of a circus carnival, while Christmas stalls and an outdoor cinema also proved popular. The three week Christmas celebration is organised by a group of volunteers. From decorating the town to creating costumes and organising a calendar of events, months of work are invested. Watch a montage below (it may take a minute to load). Clunes Neighbourhood House's Lana de Kort said the event was a celebration of community. "It's hard to deny the value of community and cultural collaboration when you see something like the Christmas in Clunes Street Parade. "It's a perfect demonstration of the way good arts practice can strengthen and lift a community - both in spirit as well as skills."
