The Spirit's recent form has seen them suffer six consecutive losses, with the team's defence attributed as the main reason for the losing streak.

"Defensively we all know we can do a lot better and be more disruptive," Wehrung said.

The Ballarat native said the team was ready to turn things around this weekend against the Lightning.

"We have the capability to do it we just need to put it into the game and play four good quarters," she said.

"Our focus this week at training has been on our defence, and on our mental toughness too.

"We are challenging ourselves because I think it's a lot to do with our mentality each game rather than our actual skill base.

"We need to tough it out and be gritty."

Wehrung missed three games after suffering an injury, however, she was eagerly watching on the sidelines.

"It's hard to miss games and just sit on the bench, but it gives you a chance to see things from a different perspective," she said.

"I can't wait to be out on the court this weekend and make an impact."

The teams have already met twice so far in the 2019-20 WNBL season.

In round four at the Bendigo Stadium, the Spirit locked in a 13-point win, final scores 67-54.

Then the following week the Lightning turned the tables with a 28-point win on their home turf in Adelaide, result 77-105.
