The inaugural Ballarat Distance Challenge will be run under a format with a difference in February.
Instead of the tradition heats and finals, Greyhound Racing Victoria has announced the final will comprise the fastest eight qualifiers from three preludes.
The final, with $10,000 to the winner, is scheduled for Wednesday, February 25.
For prelude runners which miss the final, there will also be a consolation offering $3000 to the winner for the slowest eight times in the preludes.
Preludes will be run on February 5, 12 and 19 - all Wednesday meetings.
The Ballarat club will offer 600m trials from January 1 in preparation for the series.
Final stakes: $10,000 first, $3000 second, $1500 third, $1000 fourth.
Heat stakes: $1320 first, $545 second, $330 third, $160 fourth, $90 fifth-eighth.
Consolation stakes: $3000 first, $1000 second, $500 third, $250 fourth.
