Initial concerns that a camp might not be possible because of poor phone reception have been allayed after the power of social media helped force Telstra to offer new technology to the team.
In the immediate aftermath of the December 21 bushfire, Lexton residents expressed their anger about the lack of phone coverage in the town, and within a week BlazeAid president Kevin Butler said the planned BlazeAid base camp at Lexton was "in trouble before it even starts" because of the poor coverage.
"Can anyone in mobile power or authority help with the dodgy phone signal there so BlazeAid can help burnt out farmers liaise with them and volunteer help - coming from all over Victoria - to just be able to communicate with each other so they can get their fences rebuilt?," he posted on Facebook.
BlazeAid supporters rallied, putting pressure on Telstra and local politicians for a solution to allow the volunteers to start working with local families to rebuild fences and other structures damaged or destroyed in the fire.
This week Mr Butler received word that Telstra would supply new technology to help the volunteers, providing a mobile signal boosting apparatus that will be set up at the Lexton Football Club where the camp will be based.
Volunteers will then take a smaller unit out with them each day to their worksite, which will provide enough signal for calls.
"The key is there has to be a weak Telstra signal already, and that's what we have at Lexton," Mr Butler said.

"It's a temporary fix before the Optus tower goes in. We have to have signal to organise work with farmers and families, and I have to know if a volunteer gets injured or a snake bite they need coverage."
The Lexton BlazeAid camp will start working in the coming weeks and will contact locals who lost fencing.
