Walls has joined Hepburn as a coaching mentor and will assist the Burras throughout their 2020 campaign.
The multiple Carlton premiership player and coach now lives in Hepburn and is keen to help his local club.
"They played Waubra in the grand final (last year) and I'd never heard of Waubra," Walls said.
"So one of the things I'm looking forward to is when Hepburn plays away games, is going to these different country towns and just experiencing that. It'll be nice just to go to the different places and experience it all.
"As you get older, it's good to be around younger people. And if you can pass on a tip or two, that's good."
Walls, now 69, will work alongside new Hepburn joint coaches Shane Robertson and Jason Olver, who have taken over at the helm from Clive Raak following the 2019 grand final defeat.
Walls has had a long association with Robertson, having coached him at Carlton when the Blues won the 1987 grand final against Hawthorn.
"I won't be coaching players," Walls said of his position with Hepburn.
"It's more or less just to assist the coaches in their role.
"It's very low-key, I won't be addressing players and it will just be watching training, games and how the coaches go about their work and just giving a bit of feedback to them.
"I'll be looking to help out with the reserves and the under-age coaches (as well)."
Hepburn will be looking to go one better in season 2020 after falling at the final hurdle last year.
The Burras open their new campaign with a round one clash against arch-rivals Daylesford on Saturday, April 18.
After that is a home clash against Carngham-Linton before the grand final rematch against the Roos in round three at Waubra.
