The female Senior Constable is facing three separate charges, also accused of possessing a Schedule 4 poison and unauthorised access to police information.
According to the Victoria government health website, Schedule 4 poisons (labelled 'Prescription Only Medicine') include most other medicines for which prescriptions are required - for example, local anaesthetics, antibiotics and strong analgesics (such as Panadeine Forte).
The Senior Constable will appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 19 February and is currently suspended from duty.
The western region covers almost the entire western half of Victoria outside the Melbourne area, including cities such as Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong.
Victoria Police does not give more detailed information as to where members are located when they are charged.
