The Department of Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) has announced it will spend $350,000 on upgrade works at the popular camping and recreational destination in coming months as part of the state government's Great Outdoors program.
The first stage of works will be to protect areas of cultural and environmental significance on the eastern shore from impacts caused by vehicles, which will get underway in March.
DELWP Grampians Deputy Chief Fire Officer Tony English said works on the southern shore will cater for more recreational activities
"Lake Burrumbeet is a great resource on our doorstep, particularly for our expanding Lucas communities and is popular for a range of recreational activities, including walking, camping, boating and fishing," Mr English said.
"We recognise the lake is extremely important to the Wadawurrung traditional owners and has significant cultural heritage. We are working closely with the Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation while planning improvements."
