The club overcame a slow start to win by eight shots on its home turf on Saturday.
The victory marked the fifth straight for Learmonth, which is now threatening for a finals spot despite going win-less over the entire first round of the season.
"It was a great win," said Learmonth skipper David Pike.
"It gets us out of the danger zone of getting relegated and that's the main thing."
Learmonth had its work cut out against Mt Xavier, which entered the game red-hot after knocking off top-end Ballarat the week prior.
Pike led the way for his club, steering his rink to an 17-shot triumph over opposition skipper Daryl Lamb.
The effort paved the way to victory for his club, which only managed one rink success for the afternoon.
He said the whole rink bowled consistently throughout.
"It was a pretty hard green to bowl on, it was a little bit sluggish but we all did well," he said.
Pike heaped praise on his leader Leon Davey, who bowled well for the club in place of injured teammate Chris Powell.
"He was supposed to skipper in division five," Pike said.
Mt Xavier skipper Chris McDonald achieved a one-shot victory over David Kelly, while Philip McGrath enjoyed an eight-shot win over Ross Powell.
The win elevates Learmonth to sixth spot on the competition ladder, one win behind fourth-placed Ballarat Memorial Sports, which it beat last week.
Despite the slow start, Pike said the club was always capable of turning things around.
"We all got sick of losing and knew we were a better team than our record showed," he said.
"We were only losing by narrow margins, the biggest loss we had was by eight shots."
He said the club was well and truly capable of a finals push.
"The goal for us after we lost the early ones was to keep away from relegation and that has spurred us on," he said.
"We've been in the top division for a long time and we don't want to stuff the whole thing up now."
Meanwhile Ballarat reclaimed top spot on the competition table after a comprehensive 20-shot win over Victoria.
Brad Fothergill paved the way to victory for his club with a 22-shot success over Jess Thomas. The match marked the first meeting of the year between the top sides.
Elsewhere Creswick upset BMS by 15 shots, Buninyong overcame Central Wendouree and Webbcona thrashed Sebastopol.
