A planning application has been lodged with the City of Ballarat to transform the former Fairdinkum fish and chip shop on Doveton Street into a private residence.
Much of the existing facade will be retained in accordance with heritage overlay restrictions, according to the plans.
The application for the renovation is currently on the City of Ballarat's website.
It shows plans for a brick, three-bedroom house to replace the former building.
The fish and chip shop, which had only just been as Ballarat's best fish and chips in a poll run by The Courier, was gutted by fire in July, 2017.
The owners at the time originally said they had planned on rebuilding, however the block of land has since been sold.
Little remains of the building since the fire, aside from the historic front facade.
The renovation would still need to be approved by council in order to proceed.
