The city is going for back-to-back days in the high 30s, but predictions of relatively moderate winds means fire danger is likely to sit in the 'very high' range, rather than the more severe ratings.
Ballarat can expect top temperatures of 37 on both Thursday and Friday as a strong high pressure system parks itself in the Tasman Sea.
Winds are expected to blow to around 30km/h with some gusts likely to exceed that amount, but generally, conditions should be more moderate.
The recent rain which has dampened the under soil around the region should help limit the spread of grassfires in the event they do break out, but nothing should be taken for granted in such hot weather.
After another day on 30 degrees on Saturday, a fierce change will roll into the state, seeing temperature falls by almost half, down to just 16 degrees by Monday.
There's every chance 20mm of rain could fall on the city, but like what happened two weeks ago, that will depend on where the storms clouds open.
This month, Ballarat's weather station has already received 70mm, well up on the monthly average of 39mm, however, those living closer in to the centre of town have seen just under 50mm, given the big storm which dumped 20.6mm at the airport, failed to register a drop in the city.
