Why can't there be a bus route that goes directly into town without having to go via train stations?

It would ease traffic congestion and parking issues for those wanting to get to the CBD for work.
It seems ridiculous that for us living along Sturt Street, Alfredton that we cannot catch a bus straight into town.

So they've pushed the timetable back yet again.
It was meant to be sorted at the end of 2018, then early 2019 then late 2019, then early 2020 now 2021.
PTV and whoever else is involved in this should be sacked.
Why does every bus in Ballarat even have to go to the station?
We see at least 8 to 15 buses at a time running past with just 1 or up to 5 passengers between the lot, but mostly empty.
Just run a couple of buses, preferably electric, every 10 minutes from somewhere on the edge of the CBD and then put the VLine buses at the station.
How hard is it to work this out?
Please get this sorted.
We now have a new parking regime put in place by Ballarat council for the CBD but no decent public transport or park and ride to accommodate the needs of workers in the CBD.

I'd love to use the buses again.
So much more relaxing than driving, no parking problems and nice drivers.
Now, after two lots of changes to routes and times, you have to be desperate!
The bus service which took half an hour from Buninyong to central Ballarat, now takes an hour to get to the bottom of Bridge Mall, and one and a quarter hours to the hospital with several changes needed.
Unsurprisingly, the buses are usually empty.
Most of us do not want to go to the station and those who do usually need plenty of time, and can use the lovely old dining room to wait a while.

I brought this disgraceful matter of "Empty Buses all day long" to Geoff Howard Member for Buninyong on now retired.
All my letters are all in the "too hard basket".
An absolute disaster for a city the size of Ballarat and the timetable approved by the minister for transport-Jacinta Allen is useless.
When we came here there were two buses an hour, now there is one.
Let's say you had an appointment in Ballarat and you were kept waiting you've missed your bus.
Now wait in summer and the cold winter an hour for the next one - absolutely useless. I use a car.

I don't use the bus service because it takes way too long to get to a destination compared to driving or cycling.
Also the hours of service are way too short.
I would love it if the buses ran later into the night so then I could catch one in and out when going out for dinner or to the cinema.
There are no car parks usually in the center of Ballarat at night so people take Ubers.
Also the buses do not run frequently enough.
I've tried catching a bus from my work in Lucas to Alfredton, a perfectly straight run, but the timetable is too infrequent so that instead of a 4 minute drive home, I would need to wait 30 minutes for the bus.

In Mt Pleasant there is only one bus every hour so it's a long wait with the kids if I have an appointment.
Sometimes I can't get an appointment time to match the bus times so I'm waiting for a bus for a long time, either way from home or town.

Nearly 50 years ago they scrapped a wonderful tram system which ran regular and organised routes.
If you needed to go to the station you either caught the Lydiard Street North tram or walked.
The off-peak timetable was 24 minutes and 12 minutes in the peak!
What has happened in the last 50 years? Certainly not progress.

I bought my Ballarat house partly because it had easy access to three bus routes, including my work location at the time.
We're a determined one car household.
I could get to and from that workplace in half an hour. The journey on today's timetables would be twice as long.
I used to be able to bus into and out of the centre faster than I could walk. Very handy with a shopping load. I could get to the station in time for a train, but I cannot now.
I completed the bus company survey before all the changes because there was still a lot of room for improvement as you had to check what route your bus was changing to, to see if you needed to actually get off.
You couldn't utilise a bus at all for evening appointments or social occasions.
My survey response appeared to do no good.
The company cut the route from my street, on which a number of my elderly neighbours depended and also affected clients of a nearby disability service.
It changed the pick up location for primary school students and lengthened their journeys home.
It detrimentally affected tourist travel between the quadrangle of Station, Sovereign Hill and Ballarat Wildlife Park and the Eureka Centre. It cut my bus use by 90 percent.
