The brother of the Lions' senior coach Jarrett, Giampaolo is looking to join the Western Region Football League club for this coming season.
He told The Courier while he would have loved to stay at Redan and play under his brother, he now lives in Melbourne and has opted for a new challenge in his football career.
Giampaolo, who last played with Redan back in 2017, is a former North Ballarat Roosters footballer in the VFL and has represented the Ballarat competition at interleague level.
Redan finished last season sixth on the ladder and was eventually bundled out of the premiership race by Sebastopol in the semis.
The Lions will open the new campaign with a clash against Ballarat on Saturday, April 18 before travelling to take on Melton South the following weekend.
