The festival, which only formed its committee 22 weeks ago after the demise of the Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival, has proven a winner with thousands of people filling music halls, fringe venues and Armstrong Street shops and market stalls.

For organising committee member Stevie K, the success has strengthened his resolve to see an even bigger festival next year, with mayor Ben Taylor among those throwing his support behind the idea.

"To take nothing and build a brand so quickly, I'm just blown away," Stevie K said.

"You can't walk through Armstrong Street without rubbing shoulders with people, it's truly insane and the response we are getting from owners is it has exceeded all their expectations."

Stevie K said it was hoped the festival could attract both well known Australian rock figures and an international headliner in coming years.

"I'm a big fan of expanding the range," he said.

"The one thing about rock Ballarat is while we are specific to the rock 'n' roll genre, we are a music festival and we're trying to build something that's big enough to compete with others."

Mayor Ben Taylor said events like this were always something the City of Ballarat would look to support.

"From an event point of view it was great to see what they could do in such a short period of time," Cr Taylor said.

"It brought people from across the nation, was jammed packed everywhere, gave everyone an opportunity to be involved.

"It's up to the committee how they want to run it going forward. From here, we'll go through the process, we'll debrief, have the conversation about what's worked, what can be improved on.
